“A change in culture is needed to prevent injuries on site” was the message given by John Spanswick of Bovis Lend Lease to the audience of CONSTRUCT’S Health and Safety Seminar held earlier this year. Emma Davies from the HSE gave some grime statistics about falls from height still causing 70 deaths each year. |

The first in a major series of CONSTRUCT Health and Safety publications is now available. As its title implies A Guide to the Safe Transportation of Formwork and Falsework Equipment deals mainly with the movement of products at the producer’s yard, in transit and on site. There are several appendices covering a) Principle legal requirements, b) Risk assessments and c) Driver Training. The second document in the series A Code of Practice for the Safe Erection and Dismantling of Falsework and Formwork is now available. The CONSTRUCT Safety Method Statement entitled Building a Concrete Frame is available to members. This is in the form of a series of Checklists.
A further CONSTRUCT document is being developed by the our Health and Safety Committee entitled Lifting Operations Plan. This will be available also as a CD |
