The Registration Scheme for Specialist Concrete Contractors

CONSTRUCT was responsible for the introduction and establishment of a Registration Scheme for Specialist Concrete Contractors (SpeCC), with the help of part-funding from the DTI (originally DETR). SpeCC was officially launched by Brian Wilson MP, Minister for Energy and Industry on April 24th 2002 when he presented certificates to the first batch of specialist concrete contractors to be successfully assessed and registered. The Scheme now leads the way in setting minimum standards for the structural concrete industry and plays a significant role in the quest to raise standards in their market sector and outlaw rogue contractors.

Contractors must undergo rigorous checks on their office and on-site practices to become registered, a process carried out annually thereafter by independent inspectors. Performance levels have been set for the following areas:

  • Quality System and Training Requirements
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Environmental Management
  • Deliverables and Technical Capabilities
  • Financial Stability

The following CONSTRUCT specialist contractors have been registered to date:

  • A J Morrisroe & Sons Ltd
  • Addington Formwork Ltd
  • Anderson Structures Limited

The scheme also offers clients the opportunity to select with confidence a specialist concrete contractor who has been able to demonstrate its ability to provide the required level of management, technical and financial skills and competence.
