A big thank you to all members and guests who attended CONSTRUCT Day on the 6 October 2017 which was again held at The Brewery, London. This year’s event was attended by a record number of members and their guests – totalling over 530.
We would like to thank all the companies who sponsored the event:
- Leada Acrow
- Oliver Connell and Son
- Ischebeck Titan
- Foundation Developments
- Square Mile Broking
- Thames Reinforcements
- RMD Kwikform

An exhibition was held during the morning in which 36 companies took part. Whilst this was under way we had a taste bud challenge competition in which the participants had to guess the taste of 5 different cheeses, 5 different types of craft beer and 5 different tastes of chocolate. The first prize was won by Matt Gilliver of CCL and his prize was a 2 night glamping break for 4 people. Lucky Matt was also the first prize winner last year in our Scalextric competition. Second prize of theatre tickets including dinner for 2 was won by Ben Eyers of Corbyn Construction and third prize of an all day brewery experience for 2 was won by Marc O’Dalaigh of Careys
During the Champagne Reception and lunch, we were entertained by the ever popular Mike Herbert who demonstrated the magic of his scissors by cutting out extraordinary silhouettes of the guests. His performance was much enjoyed by one and all.
Unfortunately our Chairman, Steve Regan, was unable to attend CONSTRUCT Day as he recently had a small operation; Brian Morrisroe stepped in and talked about the continued growth of CONSTRUCT despite the challenges of Brexit, high inflation and a shortage of skilled labour.
He reiterated that CONSTRUCT’s vision and objectives remain strong and unchanged and our actions for continuous improvement in safety performance and training provision for our members continues. Brian thanked Tracey and Dave for their grand contribution to CONSTRUCT and for their efforts and energy.
Paul Sinha, our after-lunch speaker, performed a splendid and very funny act, engaging with his audience in a manner which had them waiting for the next part. Paul then remained on stage to run the Heads and Tails events and be photographed with the Awards winners.
The Taste Bud Challenge tickets sold together with the Heads and Tails contributions went to our Charity, The Lighthouse Club, and with your help we raised £6,306.41. A big thank you to all of you for your grand support. We will again be raising funds for The Lighthouse Club with the sale of tickets for the Peter Campbell Lecture on the 16 November. Details of CONSTRUCT Day 2018 will be available mid-2018 along with sponsorship and exhibition opportunities. Spaces for the exhibition are limited and we encourage companies to book spaces when returning their completed application forms, as we will not be able to allow displays which are not pre booked.
We would once again like to thank all the Sponsors for their support and we hope to offer further sponsorship opportunities for the 2018 event.
